Kern County, CA – On the morning of Monday, June 15, 2026, a collision between an SUV and a motorcycle resulted in the death of James Bradley Stearns, 65, of Frazier Park, according to KGET.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 6:09 AM on westbound Frazier Mountain Park Road east of Mt. Pinos Way.
Authorities said Stearns was riding his motorcycle westbound on Frazier Mountain Park Road when a Chevrolet SUV driven by a 27-year-old man, also traveling westbound, struck the rear of the motorcycle.
Stearns was ejected and collided with the front windshield of the SUV, sustaining fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:28 AM. The Kern County Coroner’s Office formally identified him following his death.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Impairment was not considered a factor for the SUV driver, though it had not been determined at the time of reporting whether impairment was a factor for Stearns.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claim
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
