Selma, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, June 16, 2026, a collision with a vehicle resulted in the death of Manuel Uriel Hernandez Nolasco, 15, while he was riding an electric bike, according to ABC30.
The Selma Police Department reports that the accident took place just before 1:30 PM at Rose and Highland Avenues.
Authorities said Hernandez Nolasco was attempting to cross Highland Avenue at Rose Avenue on an electric bike when he was struck by a car. He was on his way home from school at the time of the collision.
He sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation throughout.
Selma Police Chief Rudy Alcaraz met with Hernandez Nolasco’s family and described the loss as a heartbreaking tragedy that will stay with both the family and the driver for the rest of their lives. He noted there was no malice involved in the collision.
A memorial has grown at the site of the crash, and a GoFundMe campaign has been established to support Hernandez Nolasco’s family, describing him as a bright, loving boy and a twin.
Authorities urge teens and parents to take extra safety precautions and follow all rules of the road. Discussions are underway to expand and improve the Rose and Highland intersection to improve safety amid the community’s rapid growth.
