San Joaquin County, CA – On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 19, 2026, a multi-vehicle collision resulted in two fatalities and the arrest of Manvir Singh, according to ABC10, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 12:21 PM on northbound Highway 99 near the Harney Lane off-ramp near Lodi.
Authorities said the collision involved a white big rig with a trailer, a black small sedan, a gray small vehicle, and a black Nissan Frontier, with all lanes blocked following the impact. An open emergency line captured screaming in the background at the time of the initial report, consistent with the severity of the crash.
A heavy-duty wrecker was requested to lift the big rig off one of the vehicles in order to access a rear passenger. Two individuals were detained at the scene in connection with the collision.
The Harney Lane off-ramp and on-ramp were closed while investigators processed the scene, with Caltrans implementing a hard closure and activating changeable message signs. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office was contacted to provide drone coverage and assist with a perimeter. The coroner was notified and responded to the scene.
Singh was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. Four vehicles, including a destroyed Kia, a Toyota Camry, and a Nissan, were towed from the scene, with the big rig designated as an evidence vehicle.
All northbound lanes were reopened following the investigation, though the on-ramp remained closed for guardrail repairs with no estimated reopening time. The investigation remains ongoing.
Wrongful Death Claim
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
