Eagles Nest Rd, Woodring Dr Crash Kills 2 Motorcyclists near Mather Golf Course; Suspect Jihvon Thompson, 24, Arrested

Sacramento County, CA – On the evening of Monday, May 18, 2026, a suspected DUI collision resulted in the deaths of two 20-year-old e-motorcycle riders and led to the arrest of Jihvon Thompson, 24, according to KCRA, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 9:15 PM at Eagles Nest Road and Woodring Drive, just south of the Mather Golf Course.

Authorities said the two riders were stopped at a stop sign when a Nissan Titan pickup truck traveling at an extremely high rate of speed lost control and struck both of them. Two male subjects fled the scene on foot into nearby fields following the crash. One was detained at the scene, while Thompson was arrested at his home.

Witnesses reported that all of those involved had been socializing together in nearby dirt fields prior to the crash and that the truck was carrying multiple occupants at the time of the collision.

Thompson faces two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, two counts of felony driving under the influence causing great bodily injury or death, one count of felony hit-and-run, and an additional count of driving under the influence.

The identities of the two riders had not been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Wrongful Death Claim

Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of support for dependents of the deceased.
