DUI Suspected after Tour Bus Crash near 17-Mile Dr, Congress Rd in Pacific Grove Injures 2

Pacific Grove, CA – On the afternoon of Saturday, May 16, 2026, a suspected DUI head-on collision involving a tour bus left two people hospitalized, according to KSBW.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:00 PM on 17-Mile Drive west of Congress Road.

Authorities said a 39-year-old Pacific Grove man driving a Corvette eastbound on 17-Mile Drive crossed over the double yellow lines and collided head-on with a westbound tour bus driven by a 62-year-old man from Hesperia.

The tour bus was carrying 48 passengers at the time of the crash. The 39-year-old Corvette driver sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A 60-year-old woman sustained injuries in connection with the collision and was also transported for treatment.

Investigators said alcohol and speed appear to have been factors in the crash, though the reason the Corvette crossed into oncoming traffic had not been determined at the time of reporting.

All information was noted as preliminary and subject to change. The investigation remains ongoing.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”

Personal Injury Claims

When the actions of reckless drivers cause others to be injured, the cost of recovery should not fall on their victims. Filing a personal injury claim with the at-fault party’s insurance can provide compensation for medical bills and lost wages during recovery.
