Stanislaus County, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, a pedestrian hit-and-run resulted in a fatality and the arrest of a 19-year-old man, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 9:00 PM near Claribel and Langworth Roads, just outside of the Riverbank area.
Authorities said the striking vehicle, identified as a white Ford F-150, fled the scene following the collision. CHP requested public assistance in locating the vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, and officers subsequently located the truck and made an arrest overnight. The 19-year-old suspect was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on a felony hit-and-run charge.
The Riverbank Police Department and CHP’s Investigative Services Unit assisted with the investigation. The identity of the arrested individual and the identity of the pedestrian who was killed had not been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a duty of care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a wrongful death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
