April 4, 2026, Delano, CA: One life was taken in a tragic wrong-way accident that occurred at an intersection in Delano on Saturday night.
According to Bakersfield Now, the collision happened at 9:17 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 99 and Ninth Avenue. Police confirmed that a 28-year-old man was driving a Tesla headed northbound in the southbound lanes of traffic on the highway. At the same time, a 49-year-old woman was headed south in a Nissan and a 23-year-old woman was driving her Dodge Charger behind the Nissan.
The Tesla driver continued in the wrong lane of traffic until he was directly in the path of the Nissan. Both vehicles collided head-on with one another. Once the crash occurred, the driver of the Charger crashed into the Nissan as well.
Police confirmed that a passenger inside the Nissan tragically lost their life in the accident. The driver, as well as a second passenger inside the Nissan, were also seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. One person in the Charger was also taken to the hospital with injuries.
Police believe that the driver of the Tesla was driving under the influence at the time of the crash. They have not announced any charges as of yet.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision continues.
