Stanislaus County, CA – On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a collision resulted in injuries that proved fatal to an 80-year-old Delhi woman and injured Jose Renteria, 76, of Delhi, according to the Modesto Bee, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 5:30 PM at Gratton Road and East Avenue near Denair.
Authorities said a 16-year-old girl from El Dorado Hills was driving southbound on Gratton Road when she approached a stop sign at East Avenue and failed to yield the right of way.
Jose Renteria, 76, of Delhi, was driving westbound on East Avenue when the Honda sedan he was operating was struck broadside on the left side by the Chevrolet pickup truck driven by the teen.
Emergency crews arrived to find both vehicles with major damage. Renteria was transported to Memorial Medical Center with major injuries. His passenger, an 80-year-old woman from Delhi, was transported to Doctors Medical Center, where she subsequently died from her injuries. The teen driver sustained injuries and was not hospitalized. A 77-year-old male passenger in the pickup truck from Winton was not injured.
All occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, and drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been contributing factors. The investigation remains ongoing.
