San Francisco, CA – On the morning of Tuesday, March 24, 2026, a municipal bus struck and killed a male pedestrian, according to KRON.
The San Francisco Police Department reports that the accident took place around 6:50 AM on Geary Boulevard near Kearny Street.
Authorities said the outbound 38 Geary bus was traveling westbound on Geary Boulevard when a man allegedly fell from the sidewalk into the roadway and was struck by the bus. Emergency personnel responded and transported the man to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. The San Francisco Municipal Transit Agency said the driver was placed on non-driving status and was being tested for drugs and alcohol.
The SFMTA said it is cooperating fully with the investigation, which is being led by the San Francisco Police Department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Unit.
No additional details regarding the identity of the deceased had been released at the time of reporting. The investigation remains ongoing.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a duty of care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a wrongful death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
