Shafter, CA – On the morning of Friday, March 6, 2026, a collision between a passenger vehicle and a big rig resulted in the death of a Toyota driver, according to KGET.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place just before 5:00 AM on Highway 43 near Orange Street.
Authorities said a man driving a Toyota was traveling southbound on Highway 43 when he approached a Freightliner towing double trailers, driven by a 42-year-old man from Shafter, traveling at approximately 15 to 20 miles per hour ahead of him. The driver of the Toyota was apparently unable to stop in time and collided with the rear of the big rig.
The driver of the Toyota was pinned inside the vehicle following the impact. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, where he was pronounced dead. Investigators have not determined whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the collision to contact the California Highway Patrol. The investigation remains ongoing.
