Pedestrian Crash at 4th, Channel St Kills Child, Injures Adult in San Francisco

San Francisco, CA – On the evening of Friday, February 28, 2026, a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision resulted in the death of a 2-year-old child and injuries to an adult, according to NBC Bay Area.

The San Francisco Police Department reports that the accident took place around 8:55 PM at 4th and Channel Streets.

Authorities said officers responded to the area following reports of a crash involving pedestrians. Upon arrival, officers determined that a driver had struck an adult and a 2-year-old child who were in the process of crossing the street.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. The 2-year-old was pronounced dead upon arrival. The adult sustained non-life-threatening injuries and remained under medical care.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene following the collision and cooperated with responding officers. Authorities have asked anyone with information regarding the circumstances of the crash to reach out to the San Francisco Police Department directly.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
