Orangevale, CA – On the evening of Sunday, February 22, 2026, a collision involving two vehicles resulted in fatal injuries to a pedestrian, according to KCRA, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 8:30 PM on Greenback Lane just west of Main Avenue.
Authorities said the pedestrian may have been attempting to cross Greenback Lane outside of a marked crosswalk when they were struck by an initial vehicle traveling along the roadway. Shortly afterward, a second vehicle also struck the pedestrian.
Emergency crews from Sacramento Metro Fire responded to the scene and blocked lanes one and two while rendering aid. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at 8:44 PM.
CHP officials reported that both drivers remained at the scene and are fully cooperating with investigators. Authorities stated that neither driving under the influence nor speed appear to be factors in the crash.
Tow services were requested, and the roadway was later cleared and reopened. The incident remains under investigation.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
