Vallejo, CA – A fatal pedestrian crash was reported Thursday evening, February 12, 2026, on westbound State Route 37 near Skaggs Island Road, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place at approximately 7:23 PM, in the westbound lanes of State Route 37.
Units were already en route at the time of the notification. An officer arrived on scene at approximately 7:26 PM Authorities subsequently requested assistance from the California Department of Transportation to manage traffic control measures.
At approximately 7:58 PM, officers initiated procedures for an evidence tow and requested notification of the coroner. The coroner was contacted shortly thereafter and confirmed receipt of the information. Vacaville Tow was requested for the evidence tow of the involved vehicle.
Both westbound lanes of State Route 37 were reportedly blocked at approximately 8:07 PM Authorities attempted to open the shoulder to allow limited traffic flow. The sheriff’s department was notified, and coordination continued with Caltrans regarding lane closures and changeable message signs.
At 8:18 PM, fire personnel advised that traffic should be shut off at North Gate due to multiple vehicles approaching the closure and the potential for motorists to become stuck in traffic. Officials requested that the Transportation Management Center post updates indicating that the No. 1 lane was blocked and advising motorists to use alternate routes. An estimated time of reopening was not available at that time.
By 9:42 PM, the No. 1 lane was reopened to traffic. Additional notifications were made to Caltrans regarding the updated roadway status.
At approximately 10:03 PM, a secondary location was logged for the involved vehicle at an evidence yard. By 11:00 PM, the vehicle was confirmed to be in the tow yard.
Authorities have not released the identity of the pedestrian. The collision remains under investigation.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, which includes being vigilant for those travelling by foot and, if a collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver evade authorities, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
