Folsom, CA – On the afternoon of Thursday, January 22, 2026, Elinor Steffy, 22, was fatally injured after a vehicle crashed near a light rail station in Folsom, according to KCRA.
Authorities said the collision occurred just before 3:00 PM at the Iron Point SacRT station. Police confirmed that a pedestrian was struck and killed at the scene, while one additional person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. The extent of that person’s injuries was not immediately released.
Loved ones said Steffy, a Folsom resident and dance instructor, was on her way to work at the nearby Hawkins School of Performing Arts at the time of the crash.
SacRT reported that a vehicle struck a station ramp and overturned onto the light rail tracks. Officials emphasized that no SacRT train or transit vehicle was involved in the collision itself.
As a result of the overturned vehicle, light rail service was suspended between the Sunrise and Historic Folsom stations. SacRT implemented a bus bridge to accommodate passengers while crews cleared the scene and inspected the tracks.
Folsom police stated that alcohol is not suspected to have been a factor in the crash. The cause remains under investigation, and officials noted that fatal collision investigations can take several months to complete.
Light rail service fully resumed at approximately 8:00 PM after the vehicle was removed and safety inspections were completed.
