Lake Isabella, CA – On the evening of Thursday, January 22, 2026, a man operating an electric wheelchair was killed in a vehicle collision in the Lake Isabella area, according to KGET, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.
California Highway Patrol officers were dispatched at approximately 6:00 PM to an area north of Lake Isabella Boulevard near Crestview Avenue following reports of a collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian. Investigators stated that a 2002 Toyota Tundra, driven by a 72-year-old man, was traveling northbound on Lake Isabella Boulevard at an unknown speed. At the same time, a 78-year-old man was traveling in an electric wheelchair in the area.
For reasons that remain under investigation, the Toyota Tundra and the electric wheelchair collided. Emergency responders arrived on scene and determined that the wheelchair operator had sustained fatal injuries.
The 78-year-old man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota remained at the location and cooperated with authorities.

No arrests were made, and no information has been released regarding impairment or contributing factors. The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling.
