Fremont, CA – On the afternoon of Friday, January 3, 2026, 69-year-old Danny Chiu was killed in a traffic collision involving a bicycle and a big rig on Osgood Road, according to KRON.
The Fremont Police Department reports that the collision occurred just after 12:00 PM in the 44000 block of Osgood Road.
Preliminary findings indicate that a big rig was traveling northbound on Osgood Road as it moved into a left-turn lane and began turning left into a business parking lot. At the same time, Chiu was riding his bicycle southbound on Osgood Road when the two collided.
Investigators stated that the point of impact occurred at the front driver’s side of the big rig and the oncoming bicyclist. The force of the collision caused critical injuries to Chiu.
Chiu was pronounced deceased at the scene. Emergency medical personnel responded but were unable to provide life-saving measures due to the severity of his injuries.
Officers secured the roadway and conducted an on-scene investigation, which included documenting vehicle positions, collecting physical evidence, and interviewing involved parties and witnesses. Traffic in the area was impacted while the investigation was underway.
Authorities reported that drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been contributing factors in the collision. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Police noted that this incident represents the first fatal traffic collision reported in Fremont in 2026.
