Fresno County, CA – On the evening of Monday, December 29, 2025, Carlos Pimentel, 69, and his wife, Maria Pimentel, 62, were killed in a head-on traffic collision on State Route 145 south of West Ford Avenue, according to KFSN.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the crash occurred just before 7:30 PM near the community of Coalinga. The couple was traveling northbound in a Hyundai when their vehicle was struck by a southbound car.
Investigators stated that a 30-year-old man driving southbound on State Route 145 attempted to pass two vehicles and crossed into the northbound lane. The southbound vehicle collided head-on with the Pimentels’ car, resulting in fatal injuries to both occupants.
Emergency responders pronounced Carlos and Maria Pimentel dead at the scene. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office confirmed their identities and reported that both were residents of Coalinga.
The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. California Highway Patrol officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Authorities stated that the driver faces multiple felony charges, including manslaughter. The collision remains under investigation as officers continue to document evidence, review vehicle movements, and complete required investigative procedures.
