Big Rig Crash Kills Pedestrian on Hwy 99 near Clinton Ave in Fresno

Fresno, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, November 18, 2025, a 25-year-old man was struck and killed by a big rig in a fatal pedestrian accident, according to KFSN, with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:30 PM near the northbound lanes of Highway 99 just south of Clinton Avenue.

Authorities said the man had been walking in active traffic lanes shortly before he was struck by a big rig. Reports from dispatch logs indicated multiple callers saw him moving between lanes, at times lying down near the center divide, and forcing several vehicles to swerve to avoid him. When the collision occurred, emergency personnel responded and confirmed that he had died at the scene.

Officials said the truck driver stopped immediately and cooperated with investigators. CHP noted the driver was not impaired, and there were no additional injuries reported. Northbound Highway 99 was closed for several hours while officers conducted lane closures, coordinated with fire crews, and worked with Caltrans to manage traffic control. The roadway later reopened once the scene was cleared.

The circumstances surrounding why the man was in the roadway remain unclear. The collision is still under investigation, and authorities are reviewing all available evidence to determine the sequence of events leading up to the fatal impact.

Ongoing Investigations

Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.

Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents

California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as if they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a Duty of Care toward their safety.

It may therefore be determined that a motorist is subject to only partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
