Bakersfield, CA – On the morning of Friday, October 31, 2025, a crash involving a Bakersfield Fire Department Arson Investigator vehicle left 32-year-old Bruce Edward Hall, Jr., dead after he was struck while bicycling, according to KBAK.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 10:00 AM at the intersection of 4th Street and Union Avenue.
Authorities said Hall Jr. was traveling westbound on 4th Street and appeared to have failed to stop for a red light when he entered northbound cross traffic and was struck by the on-duty arson investigator’s vehicle. Hall Jr. was transported to Kern Medical, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the BFD Arson Unit vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. Police continue to review the circumstances of the collision to determine contributing factors and ensure roadway safety.
Ongoing Investigations
Victims of traffic accidents and their families should be aware that authorities may fail to note or even misinterpret critical evidence at a crash site. One of the services that a Personal Injury Attorney can provide is to pursue follow-up investigations, which can reveal additional evidence to correct any errors made by previous investigators.
Partial Liability in Bicycle Accidents
California Law does not consider bicyclists to have the right-of-way under all circumstances. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide bicyclists with a Duty of Care toward their safety.
If evidence indicates that a motorist shares some responsibility in their own fatal accident, the motorist can still be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
