San Jose, CA – On the afternoon of Saturday, October 25, 2025, a head-on collision claimed the life of Ellen Orcutt, 74, and left another driver critically injured, according to NBC Bay Area.

The San Jose Police Department reports that the crash occurred around 2:35 PM near Foxworthy Avenue and Jarvis Avenue. 

Authorities said a man driving a GMC Yukon eastbound on Foxworthy attempted to pass a Subaru Forester on the right, striking it before veering into the opposite lane and crashing head-on with a Honda CRV.

Orcutt, the driver of the CRV, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Yukon driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The Forester driver was not injured.

Police said the Yukon rolled over and caught fire after the impact. Video from a nearby security camera showed the moment of the collision and the ensuing flames.

Residents in the neighborhood told investigators the Yukon appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed. The crash has prompted neighbors to call for additional safety measures, including speed bumps and new stop signs, to prevent future accidents.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the San Jose Police Department’s traffic unit.
