Bakersfield, CA – In the early hours of Wednesday, September 17, 2025, a two-vehicle collision involving a big rig left Corrine Danielle Vives, 27, of Covina dead and a big rig driver uninjured, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 3:10 AM on southbound Interstate 5, north of Valpredo Avenue.
Investigators said Vives sat stopped in the number one lane inside a black 2023 Kia Sorento for reasons still under investigation. At the same time, a 49-year-old man from White Water drove a 2025 International tractor with double trailers southbound toward her position. He struck the rear of the Kia, forcing both vehicles forward until they left the roadway and came to rest in the dirt center divider.
Emergency crews reached the scene quickly and found Vives pinned inside her vehicle. Medical personnel attempted treatment, but she died before they could move her from the wreck. The Kern County Coroner’s Office later confirmed her identity.
The driver of the big rig avoided injury. His truck sustained significant front-end damage but did not spill its load. Authorities noted that the cargo included hazardous materials, though crews determined no leak had occurred.
California Highway Patrol officers requested a full lane closure to protect responders and document evidence. Tow units with heavy equipment removed the tractor-trailer and the SUV, while fire personnel checked the scene for further hazards. Lanes reopened once investigators finished collecting data and debris had been cleared.
Officers said they did not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. The investigation into why the Kia was stopped in the traffic lane remains active.
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
