San Jose, CA – On the evening of Wednesday, August 27, 2025, a bicycle collision left a woman identified only as Adela, 75, with severe head injuries that ultimately proved fatal, according to KRON.
The San Jose Police Department reports that the accident took place around 7:30 PM near Ocala Avenue at Hillview Park.
Police said Adela walked westbound on Ocala Avenue inside the park when the bicyclist, who also traveled westbound, struck her with significant force. The impact knocked her to the ground. Officers identified the bicycle as a vintage blue 16-speed Centurion road bike.
Family members said Adela walked in Hillview Park regularly as part of her evening routine. On August 27, she followed the same routine, but her walk ended in tragedy when the intoxicated bicyclist collided with her. Relatives later stated that the man appeared inebriated at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders transported Adela to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Doctors treated her for severe trauma to the head. She clung to life for several days, but her condition worsened. She died on September 2, six days after the collision, as a direct result of her injuries.
Police arrested the bicyclist shortly after the crash. Authorities booked him into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of DUI on a bicycle causing injury. Investigators have not released his name at this time.
Police stated that Adela’s death marked the 13th pedestrian fatality in San Jose in 2025. Authorities said the investigation into the circumstances of the crash remains ongoing.
