Bakersfield, CA – On the evening of Sunday, August 24, 2025, a two-vehicle collision at a central Bakersfield intersection left one-month-old Le’anna Sterling with severe injuries that later proved fatal, according to KBAK.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 7:31 PM at the intersection of 8th Street and T Street.
Officers arrived to find a red pickup truck and a silver sedan with significant collision damage. Inside the sedan, Le’anna Sterling, one month old, suffered critical injuries. Emergency crews transported her to a local hospital for immediate treatment, and she was later transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, where doctors pronounced her dead on Monday, August 25.
Authorities confirmed that no other passengers were present in either vehicle. Both drivers, a woman in the sedan and a man in the pickup, declined medical care at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police stated they found no evidence of alcohol or drug impairment.
Investigators explained that the sedan traveled northbound on T Street, while the pickup moved westbound on 8th Street when the vehicles collided. Only the northbound and southbound lanes at that intersection are controlled by stop signs.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police ask anyone with information to contact the Bakersfield Police Department.
