Bakersfield, CA – In the early morning of Sunday, August 24, 2025, a two-vehicle suspected DUI collision killed Chasie Aquino Carino, 23, of Delano and left two other people injured, according to KBAK.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 1:20 AM at the intersection of Panama Lane and Stine Road.
When officers arrived, they found two vehicles with heavy front-end damage resting just west of the intersection. Authorities discovered Carino lying in the roadway with catastrophic injuries. Medical personnel attempted to treat her, but she died at the scene.
Investigators determined that Carino rode as a passenger in a southbound vehicle that entered the intersection and collided with a vehicle traveling westbound. The impact ejected Carino from the car. The driver of the southbound vehicle sustained life-threatening injuries, and paramedics transported that driver to a nearby hospital for emergency care. The driver of the westbound vehicle suffered minor injuries and was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police stated that speed and alcohol contributed to the collision. Officers secured the scene with traffic cones and patrol cars to block off the area while conducting their investigation.
During that time, a vehicle drove through the barricade and entered the crash scene. Officers detained the driver, a man, who showed signs of intoxication. After confirming impairment, officers arrested him and booked him into the Kern County Jail.
A short time later, another vehicle entered the closed roadway by traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes. Officers detained the driver, a woman, who also showed signs of intoxication. She was arrested and booked into the Kern County Jail.
The Bakersfield Police Department continues to investigate the crash and urges anyone with information about the events leading up to it to contact their office.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income.
California DUI Law
Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”
