Carmichael, CA – On the night of Wednesday, August 13, 2025, a woman in her 50s was fatally struck by an SUV while pushing a wheelchair, according to ABC10.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred at approximately 9:15 PM in the southbound lanes of Fair Oaks Boulevard near Landis Avenue.
The woman was in the roadway when she was hit by a man in his 20s driving through the two-lane section of the boulevard.
The impact left the woman with fatal injuries, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. CHP investigators said the driver was unable to stop his vehicle in time to avoid the collision.
Alcohol and drug impairment are not believed to be factors in the crash, officials stated. The driver stayed at the scene after the incident and is cooperating with law enforcement during the ongoing investigation.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
