Fremont, CA – On the early morning of Tuesday, August 12, 2025, a vehicle struck and killed a 76-year-old Fremont resident while they were crossing the street, according to Bay City News.
The Fremont Police Department reports that the accident took place around 5:00 AM at Paseo Padre Parkway and Capitol Avenue.
Officers responded to a 911 call regarding a major injury collision and located the pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Police stated that the pedestrian had been attempting to cross Paseo Padre Parkway mid-block, south of Capitol Avenue, while pushing a shopping cart containing personal belongings. The individual had reached the raised center median divider when a vehicle traveling northbound struck both the pedestrian and the cart.
Authorities reported that an unknown second vehicle struck the pedestrian after the initial impact. The driver of the first vehicle left the scene briefly but returned a short time later and is cooperating with investigators.
Investigators said drug or alcohol impairment does not appear to have contributed to the collision. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Police confirmed that this incident marks the fifth fatal traffic collision in Fremont in 2025. Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact the Fremont Police Traffic Unit.
