Contra Costa County, CA – In the early morning hours of Friday, August 8, 2025, a fatal hit-and-run involving a big rig occurred on State Route 4 near the Middle River area, according to CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place at approximately 3:25 AM and involved a white GMC Yukon and a white big rig equipped with a 1,600-gallon stainless steel water tank. Debris, including broken glass, was found in the roadway.
Responding units from local fire departments and law enforcement agencies arrived to assist at the scene. The driver of the big rig was reported to have fled the location on foot, with descriptions provided to responding officers. Multiple law enforcement resources, including the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office and aerial units, were notified and requested to aid in the search.
Tow services were called for the GMC Yukon, and a heavy-duty tow was dispatched to recover the big rig, which was positioned partially in an embankment and facing southbound.
Eastbound lanes of State Route 4 were closed, and one-way traffic control was implemented while the investigation and recovery efforts took place. By approximately 7:56 AM, the roadway was fully reopened.
The identity of the deceased has not been released, and the crash remains under investigation.
