July 6, 2025, Bakersfield, CA: One person tragically lost their life in a fatal collision on a highway in Bakersfield on Sunday night.
The accident, according to information provided by Bakersfield Now, occurred at 7:23 p.m. on Highway 65 just north of Minneola Avenue. Police confirmed that a 55-year-old man was headed south on the highway in a 2013 Toyota Sienna van while a 23-year-old man was driving southbound on the highway in a 2005 Ford F-350 pulling a two-axle trailer in front of the Toyota. For reasons that are still under investigation, the Toyota went into the northbound lane and the driver tried to pass the pickup truck. The driver of the Toyota then suddenly veered over into the lane again, causing it to strike the front end of the Ford.
The Toyota overturned and the passenger inside the vehicle was ejected. The passenger was tragically pronounced dead on scene. The driver and two other passengers inside the Toyota were rushed to Kern Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver and passengers in the Ford were not injured.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of traffic were closed for several hours as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released at this time. Police continue their investigation into the collision.
