Orange Cove, CA – On the night of Saturday, June 28, 2025, a hit-and-run collision resulted in the death of a female bicyclist in Fresno County, according to The Fresno Bee.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the incident occurred around 9:30 PM at the intersection of Adams and Cove Avenues.
According to investigators, the victim had been riding a bicycle westbound along Adams Avenue when a red Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck, also traveling westbound, struck her from behind.
After the initial impact, the truck continued forward, dragging the bicycle for approximately 120 feet. The driver then fled the scene without stopping to provide aid or contact emergency responders.
Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after the collision. Despite their efforts, the woman was pronounced dead at the location of the crash. Authorities noted that she had activated a handheld lighting device intended to improve her visibility while riding.
As part of the investigation, officers recovered physical evidence from the scene, including a smoked-out headlight lens and a black Chevrolet “bowtie” grille emblem. Based on this evidence, CHP investigators believe the involved vehicle is a red Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck from the 2000s.
The truck is expected to have sustained significant damage to the right front area and is likely missing a headlight lens. The vehicle may also be missing its distinctive black grille emblem.
At this time, the identity of the victim has not been publicly released, pending notification of her next of kin.
Authorities continue to search for the suspect vehicle and are asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the red pickup truck is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol office serving Fresno County. The investigation remains active.
California Hit-and-Run Laws
California Law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop their vehicle, notify law enforcement, and exchange insurance information with others involved. Failure to do so, considered to be a “hit-and-run,” is a misdemeanor in cases of property damage and a felony when someone has been injured.
Bicycle Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards bicyclists, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
