Bakersfield, CA – On the early morning of Friday, June 27, 2025, Raul Inguanzo Jr., 39, of Bakersfield, was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 58 that also left two other drivers hospitalized with serious injuries, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred around 12:38 AM on Highway 58, just west of Driver Road.
Investigators determined that a 2018 Freightliner semi-truck traveling westbound crossed over the centerline into eastbound traffic for unknown reasons. The Freightliner collided head-on with a 2021 Freightliner tow truck driven by Inguanzo, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A 2003 Honda Odyssey van traveling behind the tow truck was also involved in the crash.
After the initial impact, the 2018 Freightliner and its enclosed trailer continued off the road, struck a power pole, and caught fire, igniting a small brush fire. Emergency crews quickly responded to contain the flames and treat the injured.
The drivers of the 2018 Freightliner and the Honda Odyssey sustained major injuries and were transported to Kern Medical for treatment. Their current conditions have not been released.
Authorities closed Highway 58 between Superior Road and Nord Avenue for nearly 11 hours while they conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage. The roadway was fully reopened later Friday morning.
The CHP states that the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and it is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were factors. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol Bakersfield Area office.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income.
