Fresno County, CA – On the night of Monday, June 23, 2025, a pedestrian collision resulted in fatal injuries to a woman who was struck by a vehicle, according to ABC30.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 9:45 PM near the intersection of Shields Avenue and De Wolf Avenue, located just east of Fresno.
Upon arrival, first responders located an adult female lying in the road. Despite immediate life-saving efforts at the scene, the woman was pronounced dead. Her name has not yet been released by officials, pending notification of her family.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the woman was walking into the roadway when she was struck by an eastbound Toyota Tundra driven by a 20-year-old man from Clovis. According to CHP officials, the driver was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian and remained at the scene to cooperate fully with authorities.
Investigators believe the pedestrian may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident. No arrests have been made, and the case remains under active investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
