June 3, 2025, Merced, CA: A fatal bicycle accident took place on a roadway in Merced that took one life on Tuesday.
The accident, according to information provided by Your Central Valley, occurred around 9:30 p.m. on Highway Belcher Avenue just west of Highway 59. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling in the area in a white pickup truck when they struck a bicyclist. The driver kept driving without stopping.
The bicyclist, who has only been identified as a 27-year-old resident, was tragically pronounced dead on scene as a result of their injuries.
Police claim that they found the driver, who has since been identified as a 23-year-old man. The driver called police and claimed that he thought he hit something and was waiting to speak to them at a home in Merced. There was allegedly low visibility in the area at the time of the accident.
Police claim that the driver is now cooperating with police. The investigation into the collision continues.
