Pedestrian Fatality at Geary Blvd, Second Ave in San Francisco

San Francisco, CA – On the morning of Monday, June 2, 2025, a pedestrian was struck and fatally injured in a vehicle collision, according to NBC Bay Area.

The San Francisco Police Department reports that the accident took place around 12:05 AM near the intersection of Geary Boulevard and Second Avenue in the city’s Richmond District.

Police arrived on the scene and located the victim, who was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Despite medical intervention, the individual was later pronounced dead. The identity of the pedestrian has not been officially released, but advocacy group Walk San Francisco stated the victim was a 67-year-old man.

The driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities said there is no indication that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.

According to Walk San Francisco, this marks the eighth pedestrian fatality in the city so far in 2025. The group noted that Geary Boulevard is part of a set of streets that account for a disproportionate number of severe traffic collisions. They described Geary as a particularly dangerous thoroughfare due to its six traffic lanes and wide pedestrian crossings, which increase the risk of fatal injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims

Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for bicyclists with whom they share the road and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.

For those who lose a loved one in a bicycle accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.

Should the at-fault driver avoid legal consequences, compensation might still be available through a family member’s uninsured driver coverage. Consulting with a personal injury attorney can help determine the best options in such cases.
