Fresno, CA – The Fresno County Coroner has identified Skye Banda, 20, of Selma, and Isac Gomez, 22, of Fresno, as the two who lost their lives in a collision on Thursday night, May 15, 2025, according to The Fresno Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the collision occurred at approximately 9:06 PM at the intersection of West McKinley and North Westlawn avenues.
A Honda Civic, driven by Gomez, 22, was reportedly heading northbound on Westlawn Avenue when he failed to stop at a posted sign and entered the intersection. A Chevrolet pickup truck traveling westbound on McKinley Avenue, which does not have stop signs, collided with the Civic on the passenger side.
Banda, seated in the front passenger seat of the Honda, was pronounced dead at the scene. Gomez sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died early Friday morning.
A 70-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman in the Chevrolet sustained minor to moderate injuries and received medical treatment.
Both vehicles came to rest in a nearby field following the collision. Tow services were dispatched to clear the wreckage, and the Fresno County Coroner was notified late Thursday evening.
It is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
Stop Sign Laws
California Law requires drivers to come to a complete stop at a Stop sign (California Vehicle Code 22450). Drivers may only enter the intersection when it appears safe for all parties to do so (California Vehicle Code 21802).
Wrongful Death Claims
Losing a loved one in a traffic accident is devastating, and the pain can be made worse by the financial strain that often follows. Medical bills, funeral costs, and the loss of income to support dependents of the deceased can leave families struggling. Filing a Wrongful Death claim against those responsible can provide compensation to help with these expenses.
