Bakersfield, CA – The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified 39-year-old Edin Navarijo of Bakersfield as the construction worker killed in a workplace accident on the afternoon of Monday, May 5, 2025, according to KBAK.
The Bakersfield Police Department reports that the accident took place around 2:00 PM near the intersection of Stockdale Highway and Wegis Avenue.
Authorities say that Navarijo was working at a construction site when he fell approximately 20 feet into a trench and was subsequently struck by a piece of construction equipment. Emergency crews from both the Kern County and Bakersfield Fire Departments responded to the scene, where Navarijo was pronounced dead.
Navarijo’s body was recovered in the early morning hours of the following day. Cal/OSHA and local law enforcement are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident, including compliance with safety protocols at the job site.
