Fresno County, CA – On the evening of Tuesday, April 15, 2025, a woman was killed after exiting a moving vehicle and being run over in Fresno County, according to ABC30.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident occurred around 9:00 PM near the intersection of Millerton Road and North Fork Road in Friant.
Authorities say the 34-year-old woman was riding in the front passenger seat of a pickup truck when she opened the door and exited the moving vehicle. She was subsequently run over by one of the rear tires and died at the scene from her injuries. Her identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The driver, identified as the woman’s 20-year-old boyfriend, told investigators he was traveling approximately 40 miles per hour at the time. Officers say he remained at the scene and attempted CPR before emergency crews arrived. He was not taken into custody, and investigators do not currently suspect foul play.
CHP officials report that drugs, alcohol, and domestic violence have been ruled out for the driver. Toxicology results for the deceased woman are still pending.
Investigators are reviewing the circumstances and are seeking surveillance footage to aid in the investigation.
Passenger Liability
Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming.
A skilled personal injury attorney can help families pursue proper compensation for their loss by handling these legal complexities and negotiating with insurance companies, who always try to reduce payouts on claims they cannot deny.
Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents
California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as if they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a Duty of Care toward their safety.
It may therefore be determined that a motorist is subject to only partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
