Sacramento, CA – On the morning of Friday, April 11, 2025, a two-vehicle collision resulted in fatal injuries to a female pedestrian, according to The Sacramento Bee.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 4:44 AM near the intersection of Calvine Road and the onramp to northbound Highway 99.
Officials say the woman was walking across Calvine Road when she entered the path of a westbound sedan and was struck. Shortly after, a second vehicle, described as a compact car, attempted to avoid the woman but also hit her. CHP noted that both drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office is in the process of notifying the victim’s family.
Authorities stated that alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision. No injuries were reported among the drivers. The onramp was temporarily closed for investigation but was reopened later that morning.
This is an ongoing investigation.
Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death Claims
Drivers have a Duty of Care towards pedestrians, who are particularly vulnerable in traffic accidents. This responsibility includes being vigilant for pedestrians near the roadway and, if a fatal collision occurs, staying with the victim, alerting emergency responders, and cooperating with authorities investigating the crash.
For those who lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, filing a Wrongful Death claim with the assistance of an experienced attorney can provide compensation for medical bills, funeral costs, and other related damages.
Partial Liability in Pedestrian Accidents
California Law does not consider pedestrians to have the right-of-way under all circumstances, such as if they attempt to cross outside of a crosswalk. However, motorists are never relieved of the expectation to provide pedestrians with a Duty of Care toward their safety.
It may be determined that a motorist is subject to only partial liability in a pedestrian accident. Should that be the case, they would be financially responsible for the victim’s recovery costs in proportion to their degree of liability.
