Fatal Crash near Hwy 165, Turner Ave in Merced County; DUI Suspect Melissa Rosales, 20, Arrested

Merced County, CA – On the early morning of Saturday, March 22, 2025, a head-on collision involving DUI suspect Melissa Rosales, 20, of Los Banos, resulted in two fatalities, according to ABC10 with additional reporting from CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 12:19 AM on Highway 165, south of Turner Avenue.

Investigations suggest that Rosales was driving a 2014 BMW SUV southbound at a high rate of speed when she allegedly failed to navigate a curve, crossed over solid double-yellow lines, and collided head-on with a northbound 2016 Honda Accord.

The driver of the Honda, a 41-year-old man from Ceres, and a male juvenile passenger suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Rosales sustained major injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. Officers arrested her on suspicion of felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

Authorities confirmed that all individuals involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts at the time of impact. The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement officials are asking anyone with additional information to come forward.

California DUI Law

Section 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code (CVC) states that it is illegal for any driver to “Operate a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and, as a result, cause bodily injury to someone else.”

Wrongful Death Claims

Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income.
