Rio Oso, CA – On the afternoon of Saturday, March 8, 2025, a two-vehicle collision on Highway 70 resulted in the death of a 49-year-old man, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 2:48 PM at the intersection of Highway 70 and Berry Road in Sutter County.
Authorities said the 49-year-old man, a resident of Olivehurst, was driving a Jeep Patriot eastbound on Berry Road when he stopped at a stop sign before proceeding into the intersection. As he crossed Highway 70, his vehicle was struck by a northbound Ford F-150 driven by a 30-year-old woman from Winnemucca, Nevada.
The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway, where they crashed into a stop sign pole and a light pole. Emergency responders arrived on the scene and pronounced the Jeep driver dead. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Ford sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Adventist Health + Rideout Hospital for treatment. CHP officials stated that neither driver was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
Wrongful Death Claims
Even if a fatal accident doesn’t lead to criminal charges, families who lose a loved one can still file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide support to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income.
