Delhi, CA – On the afternoon of Monday, March 3, 2025, a 75-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street, according to KSEE and CHP Fatal.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident occurred around 1:45 PM near the intersection of Shanks Road and Lewis Circle / Mediterranean Avenue.
Emergency responders arrived to find the woman suffering from major head injuries. Life-saving measures were initiated at the scene, and she was transported to a nearby hospital. However, due to the severity of her injuries, she was pronounced dead while en route.
Investigators determined that a 77-year-old man was driving a Toyota Camry southbound on Shanks Road when the collision occurred. The woman was reportedly in a marked crosswalk at the time. For reasons still under investigation, the driver failed to see her before striking her. Authorities have not indicated whether speed or distracted driving played a role in the crash.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. No arrests were made, and authorities have not yet determined if any charges will be filed. The identity of the deceased has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the full circumstances leading up to the collision.
