Modesto, CA – On the evening of Monday, February 10, 2025, a single-vehicle crash on East Briggsmore Avenue claimed the life of 20-year-old Guadalupe Hernandez of Riverbank, according to The Modesto Bee.
The Modesto Police Department reports that the crash took place around 7:22 PM near Held Drive.
The driver of a Dodge Dakota, identified as 34-year-old Anthony Avalos of Modesto, lost control after crossing railroad tracks at Santa Fe Avenue. The truck veered off the roadway and struck a tree on the south side of East Briggsmore Avenue.
Hernandez, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Avalos sustained major injuries but is expected to survive.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the crash. The Modesto Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit is asking anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward with information.
