December 4, 2024, Kettleman City, CA: A woman was killed and several others were injured in a head-on collision in Kettleman City on Wednesday morning.
The accident, according to Your Central Valley, took place around 7:30 a.m. on Utica Avenue around the area of Interstate 5. Police confirmed that the area was foggy as a Chevrolet Malibu was traveling east. At that time, a Jeep Compass was traveling west and approaching the Malibu. For reasons that police are still investigating, the driver of the Malibu veered into the other lane of traffic, striking the Jeep Compass head-on.
The female passenger who was in the Malibu was tragically pronounced dead on scene as a result of traumatic injuries. The male driver of the Malibu, as well as a rear passenger, were injured and hospitalized. The driver of the Compass, identified as a woman, sustained moderate injuries and was also taken to the hospital.
California Highway Patrol believes that low visibility due to fog could have contributed to the accident. Their investigation into the collision continues.
