California drivers are always required to obey posted speed limits, but they also must proceed at speeds “safe for conditions.” This means slowing down below the speed limit when traffic is heavy or roads become slick due to rain, ice, or snow. It means slowing down when coming up on a motor vehicle accident.
California Highway Patrol investigators usually don’t blame mother nature for crashes. They’ll usually cite drivers who don’t apply the brakes to slow down for a slippery road or when traveling around pedestrians. Motorists who don’t proceed cautiously in hazardous situations can be held financially liable for the damage and injuries they cause.
Collision Injures People Standing in I-5 Divider in Los Angeles County
A multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 5 in northern Los Angeles County left two people injured Tuesday morning. KGET-TV reports the accident occurred in the community of Gorman on January 17, 2023.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident in the southbound lanes sometime after 7:30 a.m. They determined the accident involved three vehicles in total. It happened after a vehicle spun out and struck the center divider. The driver of a second vehicle stopped to help. Both drivers were out of their vehicles when a third driver lost control of a vehicle and hit the pedestrians and their cars.
The two victims were transported to Henry Mayo Hospital in Valencia. One was determined to have minor injuries while the other was thought to have major injuries.
California Highway Patrol investigators continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident. The Weather Channel had forecast frozen precipitation in the area on the day of the collision.
Support for Victims After a Freeway 5 Accident
For victims injured in a frightening accident, filing a claim for damages is the most effective way to ensure every cost of recovery is covered.
This claim is directed at the insurance provider for an at-fault driver. Compensation would be sought to cover all of the victim’s medical care expenses now and for care expected to be needed in the future.
The victim’s missed time at work would also need to be reimbursed. A Los Angeles County Car Accident Lawyer would also work to secure support for a victim’s pain and emotional trauma experienced in a collision and during recovery.
