Pedestrians in mountainous parts of San Mateo County may not always find safe crosswalks and paths to travel. It’s up to drivers to remain vigilant at all times to monitor for potential pedestrians. Drivers have a legal duty to slow down anytime they see someone on foot near a roadway no matter if there is a crosswalk or not.
Pedestrians must be shown extra caution due to their defenseless nature when near traffic from cars, SUVs, or trucks. When drivers ignore this duty, they can be liable for any accident and owe victims and their families partial or full financial support in the aftermath.
Pacifica Pedestrian Hit and Tragically Killed
A pedestrian’s life was claimed in a Tuesday morning accident in northern Pacifica. ABC7-TV reported the accident took place along Highway 35/Skyline Boulevard somewhere between Hickey Boulevard and King Drive and October 4, 2022.
The California Highway Patrol responded to the scene sometime before 7:30 a.m. They discovered the victim had been struck by a vehicle and killed.
South San Francisco Police and Pacifica Police worked to close both directions of the highway so that CHP officers could investigate the scene. No information has been released about the driver or vehicle involved in the collision.
Support for Families After a Pacifica Pedestrian Accident
A fatal pedestrian tragedy can suddenly leave families without the care and support of a loved one. Grieving families are left to wonder how justice can be served and how to protect themselves from the financial damages that follow a traffic accident.
Close relatives will see bills arrive for a funeral and burial and emergency response. Family members also face the loss of income the victim may have provided family members through a weekly paycheck.
A civil wrongful death claim can immediately be filed against an at-fault driver’s auto insurance provider. This claim would seek to protect the family financially in the present and in the years down the road.
