Modesto, CA — On the afternoon of Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Edward Heiss, 73, lost his life in a pedestrian collision, according to KCRA.
At approximately 1:12 PM, the Modesto Police Department responded to the pedestrian accident, which took place at the intersection of Prescott Road and Mt. Vernon Drive, near a shopping center just east of Highway 99.
According to investigators, Heiss was attempting to cross Prescott Road at a crosswalk with an illuminated “walk” signal.
However, a vehicle with a 46-year-old driver, which was making a left turn from Prescott onto Mt. Vernon Drive, struck and injured him.
Emergency responders provided Heiss with transportation to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, despite the lifesaving efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The driver involved reportedly remained at the crash site and cooperated with authorities.
Modesto PD stated that this accident marks the city’s 15th traffic-related death of 2026.
Further details regarding the crash have not yet been released, including a description of the vehicle and whether or not alcohol or drugs are suspected to have played a role. This is an ongoing investigation.
