Sacramento, CA — In the early evening of Monday, November 2, 2026, a man on a bicycle lost his life after being struck by a pickup truck, according to KCRA.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the fatal accident took place at the intersection of Mack Road and Stockton Boulevard in a major retail hub east of Highway 99, at approximately 5:39 PM.
According to investigators, the pickup truck involved in the crash was traveling westbound on Mack Road when its driver felt an impact on the right side of his vehicle while attempting a right turn onto northbound Stockton Boulevard. He immediately pulled into a nearby parking lot and stopped.
Both the driver and a Good Samaritan worked to pull the injured rider and bicycle out of the roadway. Emergency responders transported the bicyclist to a nearby hospital where, despite the lifesaving efforts of medical personnel, he was pronounced deceased.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this fatal collision. This is an ongoing investigation.
Fatal Bicycle Accidents in California and Wrongful Death Claims
California law operates on the principle of comparative negligence, which allows liability to be shared among multiple parties in an accident. Fault is therefore not an all-or-nothing proposition.
If the truck driver involved is found to have been even partially liable in this fatal collision, the bicyclist’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. A wrongful death claim can provide compensation for funeral expenses and the loss of support and companionship the deceased provided.
Should the bicyclist be found partially liable himself, any wrongful death settlement may be reduced, but that would not bar his family from seeking compensation.
