Placer County, CA — On the afternoon of Sunday, October 25, 2026, a pickup truck driver and his passenger were injured in a collision with a big rig, according to The Sacramento Bee via Yahoo! News.
The California Highway Patrol’s Auburn office first received reports of the accident on Interstate 80 east of Newcastle Road in the Newcastle area of Placer County at approximately 1:49 PM.
According to investigators, the accident involved a gray Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on I-80, which allegedly made an unsafe turning movement that resulted in the vehicle striking one of the front tires of the big rig. The impact caused the Silverado to leave the highway. It came to rest on its roof in the number three lane after traveling up an embankment and overturning.
Emergency personnel rescued the male driver, who had been trapped inside the Silverado. He is believed to have sustained major injuries as a result. A female passenger of the Silverado was injured as well.
Details surrounding this collision are still emerging. This is an ongoing investigation.
Truck Accidents in California and Personal Injury Claims
California law operates under the principle of comparative negligence, which allows liability for an accident to be divided among multiple parties. So, fault is not an all-or-nothing proposition.
Even if it is proven that the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado did make an unsafe maneuver, he may be eligible to receive partial compensation through a personal injury claim if negligence on the part of the big rig driver also contributed to the crash.
The Silverado’s passenger may also have grounds to pursue a claim against both the big rig driver and the Silverado driver.
A personal injury claim can help recover damages such as medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.
