Edison, CA – On the morning of Monday, September 28, 2026, a head-on collision resulted in four deaths on Highway 58, according to KBAK.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 10:27 AM on westbound Highway 58 east of Edison Road.
Authorities said an unidentified person was driving a 2025 Hyundai Tucson eastbound on Highway 58 at an unknown speed, while another unidentified person was driving a 2020 Toyota Corolla westbound, carrying two additional passengers.
For reasons still under investigation, the Hyundai driver veered left, crossed the center divider, and collided head-on with the Toyota. Both vehicles became fully engulfed in flames, with all occupants trapped inside. The Hyundai driver, along with the Toyota driver and both passengers, sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were contributing factors. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the CHP Bakersfield Area office.
