Stanislaus County, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, a rear-end collision resulted in the death of a 71-year-old man driving a John Deere Gator utility vehicle, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place around 7:10 AM on Marshall Road east of Alfara Road, a rural roadway in Stanislaus County.
Authorities said Michael Barcellos, 48, of Patterson, was driving a silver 1999 Ford pickup towing a livestock trailer eastbound on Marshall Road at approximately 45 to 50 miles per hour behind the Gator, which was traveling at an unknown speed. The front of the Ford struck the rear of the Gator, ejecting its driver.
The man riding the Gator sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Barcellos was not injured and remained at the scene.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been contributing factors. The investigation and cleanup process took approximately two and a half hours. Investigators have not yet determined whether Barcellos will face charges.
