Rancho Cordova, CA – On the morning of Wednesday, September 30, 2026, a head-on collision resulted in the death of a 10-year-old child and left two others hospitalized, according to FOX40.
The California Highway Patrol reports that the accident took place on southbound Mather Boulevard just south of Douglas Road at Mather Heights Elementary School.
Authorities said the child’s mother was driving a gray Hyundai Elantra southbound when the vehicle crossed the double yellow lines and struck a Chevrolet Equinox traveling northbound.
Emergency responders transported both the mother and child to a nearby hospital for treatment of critical injuries. The child was confirmed to have succumbed to their wounds before noon. The Equinox’s driver, an elderly woman, was also hospitalized with major injuries.
Mather Boulevard was closed in both directions between Douglas and Alert roads for several hours, fully reopening by 10:15 AM. This is an ongoing investigation.
